Cycling in the area

Hop on a bike and discover Leiden and the surrounding area.

From Camping de Achtertuin, you can cycle straight from the greenery towards Leiden and the surrounding polders. In a short time, the landscape changes constantly: from the historic centre and the Leiden canals to meadows, water, windmills, and quiet cycle paths.

Whether you want to cycle for an hour or head out for a whole day, you can go in any direction from the Achtertuin.

To the center of Leiden

Leiden is close by and excellent to explore by bike. Hop on and cycle towards the historic city center with its canals, courtyards, old buildings, and cozy terraces.

A bike ride to Leiden is ideal to combine with a day in the city. Cycle there, park your bike, and explore the city mainly on foot. At the end of the day, hop back on and you'll be back in the countryside in no time.

Into the polder

Prefer to leave the city behind? From Camping de Achtertuin, you can cycle straight into the green countryside.

Surrounding Leiden are beautiful polders with wide ditches, meadows, old farmhouses, and windmills. The contrast with the city is striking: within a short time, you exchange the hustle and bustle for space, water, and panoramic views.

A beautiful route for those who just want to enjoy a nice bike ride without constantly needing a destination.

By bike to the sea

In the mood for a longer trip? Then you can cycle from Leiden towards the coast. Via Wassenaar and the dunes, you will arrive at Katwijk aan Zee.

The official Dune & Sea Route shows exactly how beautifully city, dunes, and coast can be combined. The route is approximately 33 kilometers long and runs through Leiden, Wassenaar, and Katwijk.

A lovely destination for a summer cycling day: nature, dunes, and eventually the sea along the way.
